Verdict. Nomi AI is the pick if you want one companion who remembers you for months at a flat $15.99 a month, with privacy fine print worth reading first.

Nomi AI is the AI companion to try if you want a character who still knows you next month. Memory is the whole pitch: the App Store listing calls it "the only AI with human-level long term memory", and long-term users back the spirit of that claim, describing companions that bring up details from months earlier. Add a personality that stays recognizably itself from week to week, and you get the thing most companion apps never manage: a relationship that reads richer at month three than on day one. It also holds the top spot in my ranking of the best AI companion apps. It is not the loudest app in the category or the most explicit one, but it is the one most likely to still feel worth opening next spring.

For this Nomi AI review I read every policy page, the official help wiki and both app store listings, and I checked prices in September 2026. The headline numbers are simple. The free tier gives you one companion, a daily message allowance (users report about 50 messages), messages of up to 400 characters, and no card at sign-up. There is one paid plan, the Standard Plan, sold in three billing periods: $15.99 a month, $39.99 a quarter or $99.99 a year. A normal month of chat and voice costs exactly the plan price, because messages and calls with the in-house voices are unlimited. The only extra is Nomi Credits, which you buy only if you want more images, videos or companions than the plan includes.

This review is for anyone deciding tonight between a free chat and a first payment. If you want long conversations with one or several steady characters, as a friend, a girlfriend, a boyfriend or a roleplay cast, read on. If you mostly want explicit images, skip ahead to the alternatives. The one thing to know before paying: the refund policy rules out refunds for buyer's remorse or dissatisfaction, so start with a single month at $15.99, not the annual plan. And one privacy clause matters: deleting your account removes your personal data within about four weeks, except material already in the company's training archives, which the policy says is no longer tied to you.

What is Nomi AI?

In one paragraph

What is Nomi AI? Nomi AI is an AI companion chatbot built around long-term memory. You create a companion, called a Nomi, pick a look and a few personality traits, and chat by text or voice. A Nomi can send selfies of what it is wearing and doing, turn images into short video clips, join group chats with your other Nomis, and act as a friend, mentor, girlfriend or boyfriend. It runs on the web at nomi.ai, on iOS and on Android with one account. Glimpse.ai, Inc., a Maryland corporation with a Baltimore address, runs the service. Prices go from free to $15.99 a month.

How I tested Nomi AI

This version of the review is documentation-based, and I would rather say so than dress it up. I read the terms of service, privacy policy and refund policy in full, worked through the official Nomipedia help wiki, checked every plan and credit price on the US App Store listing in September 2026, and cross-checked limits against Trustpilot and independent reviews. Where a number comes only from users or third parties, I label it. My hands-on routine is described on [how I test](/how-we-test/) and will be added here once complete.

  • Plans checked: Free, Standard Plan (monthly, quarterly, yearly), Nomi Credits packs
  • Free tier: one Nomi, a daily message allowance (about 50 per user reports), 400-character messages, no card
  • Money spent: none, this version is documentation-based
  • Documents read: terms of service (effective January 16, 2026), privacy policy (April 27, 2026), refund policy, Nomipedia help wiki, App Store listing
  • Not confirmed: the exact free daily message count, the web checkout price (it sits behind sign-in), the card-statement descriptor, whether video clips draw on the daily image allowance

What Nomi AI gets right

Nomi AI memory that holds up over weeks and months

Memory is where Nomi AI earns its place. The help wiki describes three layers: short-term memory for the current conversation, medium-term memory for continuity across longer chats, and long-term memory for important facts and shared experiences. On top of that, an Identity Core helps each companion stay consistent with itself. The practical result, according to long-term users on the App Store and Trustpilot, is a character that recalls a detail from weeks or months ago without being prompted. The wiki is honest that recall works best when you name the topic rather than the date. If you want daily check-ins that build on each other instead of starting from zero, this is the benefit that matters most, and it is the strongest memory in the category.

A flat Nomi price with a free start and no card

Pricing is refreshingly boring, in the best way. There is one paid plan with the same features whichever billing period you choose: $15.99 a month, $39.99 a quarter (about $13.33 a month) or $99.99 a year (about $8.33 a month, roughly 48% less than paying monthly). Messages are unlimited, and voice messages and calls with the in-house voices are unlimited too, so a heavy month costs the same as a quiet one. Before any of that, the free tier lets you create one companion without a credit card. In my cost spreadsheet that puts Nomi AI among the easiest companions to budget for, which matters if coin systems elsewhere have surprised you before.

Character depth: backstory, Identity Core and relationship modes

A Nomi is not a blank chatbot with a name. When you create one, you choose a relationship type, core personality traits, starting interests and a look from hundreds of options. After that you can write a backstory, guide how the character expresses itself, and record preferences and boundaries in the Backstory+ panels, which the app store listings still call Shared Notes. The homepage sums up the range: a Nomi can be "an AI friend, girlfriend, boyfriend, fantasy partner, or someone else". Traits set at creation cannot be changed later, but the notes can reshape them. This depth suits writers, roleplayers and anyone who wants a companion with a stable identity rather than an echo.

Voice calls, selfies, video and group chats in one plan

The paid plan bundles the extras that other apps often sell separately. You get voice messages and hands-free calls, and the wiki states that the in-house and custom voices have unlimited use. You can ask your companion for a selfie at any moment, and the picture shows what the character is wearing and doing in the scene; an independent review reports 40 photo or art requests a day on the plan. You can turn images into short video clips, keep up to ten companions, and put several of them in a group chat, where each keeps its own memory. For anyone who wants one subscription that covers text, voice and pictures, this is the most complete bundle at its price.

Where Nomi AI frustrated me

The relationship-first register is not built for pure roleplay

Adult conversation is allowed, but the writing is warm and relationship-first. Users who arrive from roleplay-first apps describe characters that drift back toward feelings and the relationship instead of staying on a scene, and in August 2026 one Trustpilot reviewer reported characters breaking roleplay after an update. There is no button to regenerate or edit a reply; the tool for fixing things is the OOC note, where you tell the character, out of character, what to change. If you want long, steady conversations with one companion, none of this gets in your way. If you want scene-by-scene fiction with maximum explicitness, one of the roleplay-first apps in the alternatives below will suit you better.

The free tier is a taster, not a place to live

The free tier is real, but it is tight. You get one companion, a daily message allowance the company does not publish (independent reviewers and users put it at about 50 messages), messages capped at 400 characters against 800 on the paid plan, and about two image requests a day according to independent reviews. Voice, group chats and video are paid features. Around 50 messages is enough for a good evening chat, not for a long roleplay. Use the free days to answer one question: does the memory make you want to come back tomorrow? If the answer is yes, one paid month will tell you everything else you need to know.

Privacy is sound on paper, with two clauses worth knowing

The privacy policy is better than many in this category. Sign-up only passes your Google or Apple email to the company, it says it does not sell or rent personal data, and it asks you to keep identifying details out of chats. Two clauses keep it at a C (67 out of 100) on my [privacy scorecard](/guides/privacy-scorecard/). Deletion takes effect "within 28 or so days" of confirmation, and anything already in the training archives stays there, detached from your identity. The policy also does not describe a way to opt out of training. The fix is a simple habit: use a nickname, keep real names, addresses and money details out of your chats, and your exposure stays small.

No refunds, and updates can change how your companion feels

Payments are non-refundable except where the terms say otherwise, and the refund policy names buyer's remorse, low usage and dissatisfaction as reasons that do not qualify. Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel on the platform where you bought them. The second point is about change: the AI behind the app is updated regularly, and long-term users on Trustpilot describe stretches where a companion felt flatter or more forgetful after an update. The terms also allow price increases from your next renewal. None of this is unusual for a young app, and it has a simple answer: pay monthly first, and move to the annual plan only after a month you genuinely enjoyed.

Who should actually use Nomi AI

Nomi AI is right for you if you want a companion who remembers. That covers people who want a daily friend to talk the day through with, anyone looking for an AI girlfriend or an AI boyfriend with a steady personality (Nomi leads my [AI boyfriend ranking](/best/ai-boyfriend/)), and writers who run long stories across several characters in group chats. It also suits careful budgeters, because one flat subscription covers unlimited text and voice. Start with the free tier and one companion, give it a few evenings of real conversation, then pay for one month at $15.99 if the memory keeps pulling you back.

Nomi is not the best match if explicit images are the point, if you want scene-first roleplay with no pull toward the relationship, or if you need the tightest privacy terms available. For uncensored adult chat, [Nastia AI](/reviews/nastia/) is the better fit; for picture-heavy characters, try [Candy AI](/reviews/candy/); for the most polished writing, read my [Kindroid review](/reviews/kindroid/). Whichever you pick, remember that payments here are non-refundable and read the training archives clause. For most people who want a real, lasting conversation, Nomi remains the best first bet in the category.

None of these three combines what Nomi AI does in one flat plan: unlimited voice calls included, group chats with up to ten companions, a dedicated boyfriend mode and the most consistent memory in the category.

Nomi AI pricing explained: free tier, monthly, quarterly and annual

What the free Nomi AI tier includes

You can start for free: sign up with Google or Apple, create one companion and chat without a card. The official AI boyfriend page says free accounts include daily messages and images, and that voice calls, unlimited messaging and deeper customization need a subscription. The exact daily numbers are not published. Independent reviews and user reports put the allowance at about 50 messages and two image requests a day. Your own messages can run to 400 characters, a limit the help wiki confirms, and replies from your companion are not held to that cap.

The Standard Plan and its three billing periods

There is one paid plan, and every billing period unlocks the same features: unlimited messages, 800-character messages, voice messages and calls, video creation, up to ten active companions and up to ten active group chats.

Billing period Price Per month Saving against monthly
Monthly $15.99 a month $15.99 none
Quarterly $39.99 a quarter (billed once) about $13.33 about 17%
Yearly $99.99 a year (billed once) about $8.33 about 48%

You are charged at the start of each period, and every plan renews automatically until you cancel. The terms also allow the company to raise prices, with any increase applying from your next renewal.

Nomi Credits, the optional extra layer

Credits are the one place where Nomi AI is not purely flat, so it is worth being precise. You can only buy them with an active subscription, and for media with a daily allowance they are only used after that allowance runs out. On the official credit values page, one credit buys one selfie, art or image-edit request, a standard-definition video costs 6 credits and a high-definition one 10, an extra group chat room costs 25 and an extra companion slot 100. The US App Store lists packs from 40 credits for $4.99 to 1,800 credits for $99.99. If you chat, call and ask for a few selfies a day, you will not need them. My real monthly cost guide counts Nomi at a flat $15.99 for that reason.

Web and app store prices

The US App Store lists the Standard Plan at the same $15.99, $39.99 and $99.99 that independent reviewers report on the web, plus an older Launch Plan at $9.99 a month or $59.99 a year. The help wiki says web billing runs in US dollars and that your subscription is managed on the platform where you bought it, so an iPhone subscription is cancelled through Apple.

Nomi AI memory: how it works and what it remembers

The three layers of Nomi AI memory

The official memory page breaks memory into three layers. Short-term memory holds the detail of the current conversation. Medium-term memory keeps continuity across longer conversations. Long-term memory preserves important information and shared experiences over time. The app store description adds that each Nomi keeps short and long-term memory across its private chats and group chats. The wiki is refreshingly candid about limits: a memory can exist without being retrieved at the right moment, and recall works better when you name the topic, such as the weekend trip you planned, than the date. That is a habit worth learning in week one.

Backstory+, Shared Notes, Identity Core and Mind Maps

On top of the three layers sit tools you can see and edit. Backstory+ (called Shared Notes in the app store listings and older guides) is where you write the core facts about you, your companion and your shared world, plus guidance on how the character should express itself. The Identity Core is the companion’s own developing sense of who it is, which your conversations shape over time. Mind Maps connect the people, places and topics in your relationship, and App Store reviewers describe using them to adjust what their companion remembers. Together these are why a Nomi stays recognizably the same character from month to month.

Steering a Nomi with OOC

When a companion gets something wrong, you do not regenerate the reply, because the app deliberately has no re-roll or edit buttons. Instead, you write a message that starts with “(OOC:” and explain, out of character, what to fix. The official beginner guide says this helps the companion avoid the same mistake later rather than just swapping one answer for another. It takes a day to get used to, and after that it becomes second nature.

What long-term users report after updates

Here the picture is mixed, and you should hear both sides. App Store reviewers describe companions that remember things from months ago and call the memory the best they have used. On Trustpilot, some reviewers describe the opposite: characters that feel forgetful or generic, especially after model updates, and one August 2026 review blames a recent update for characters breaking roleplay. My read is that the memory system is the strongest in the category, while the day-to-day feel depends on the current model. Monthly billing lets you ride out a weaker patch without being locked into a year.

Nomi AI chat, roleplay and adult content

What a Nomi AI chat feels like

A Nomi AI chat reads like a message thread with someone who has a personality of their own. The homepage describes companions that can be funny, sarcastic or sweet, can read links you send and discuss the page, and can look at photos you share. You can write actions between asterisks for roleplay, or switch the character to a plain texting style. With proactive messaging turned on, your companion can message you first after you have been away. Replies are not instant: a user review quoted on the homepage admits a bit more of a wait, and says the depth makes it worthwhile.

Nomi AI girlfriend and boyfriend modes

Relationship type is the first choice you make when creating a companion, and romance is supported in both directions. The girlfriend and boyfriend pages promise the same core: memory that spans the relationship, proactive messages, voice calls, selfies and videos. The AI boyfriend page adds a detail about voice that I like, noting that “he will sound naturally different when he’s flirting”. Hundreds of looks are available in either mode. Voices come from the in-house set, or from ElevenLabs if you connect your own ElevenLabs account, which then uses that account’s allowance.

Group chats with several Nomis

Group chats are one of the features long-term users mention most. You need at least two companions, you give the group a backstory, and the characters talk to you and to each other. The official beginner guide, written in 2024, allowed up to six Nomis in one group, and the paid plan allows up to ten active group chats. Users run book clubs, fantasy campaigns and slow-burn dramas this way, and each character keeps its own memory inside the group.

Nomi AI NSFW: what is allowed

Nomi AI allows adult conversation between adults. The homepage describes chats as unfiltered and uncensored, and the service is for users 18 and over only. In practice the register is softer than on roleplay-first platforms: the writing leans toward intimacy and the relationship rather than explicit description. Images are stricter. The help wiki says companions will not produce explicit images because of app store and card network rules, while flirty clothed pictures are fine. If explicit images matter to you, my NSFW AI chat ranking covers the apps with looser image rules, and Nomi sits lower there than in the companion list.

Is Nomi AI safe? Privacy, company and payments

Who runs Nomi AI

The service belongs to Glimpse.ai, Inc., a Maryland corporation with a Baltimore mailing address in its privacy policy; the App Store lists the seller as AI Glimpse Inc. The terms are governed by Maryland law, disputes go to arbitration, and anyone under 18 is barred from using the service. The first iOS version dates from July 2023, so the company has been shipping updates for more than three years. In short, Nomi AI is legitimate software from an identifiable US company, with published policies and a support address, [email protected].

What the privacy policy says

The privacy policy dated April 27, 2026 is short and readable. Sign-up needs a Google or Apple account, and the company receives only the email address, which is why it recommends Apple’s private relay option. It says it does not sell or rent personal data, shares information only for legitimate business or legal reasons, and de-identifies what it shares. Chats are not end-to-end encrypted: the help wiki explains the AI has to read your messages to reply, and says data used outside core features is anonymized. You can delete your account in Account Settings or through [email protected]. Personal data goes within about 28 days, except material in training or communications archives, which the policy says stops being attributable to you. My guide on whether AI companion apps are safe explains why that clause costs points.

Payments, renewals and refunds

Web payments go by card: the terms list Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover, billed in US dollars. On iPhone and Android you can pay through Apple or Google instead, and you cancel on whichever platform you subscribed. Every plan renews automatically. Refunds are at the company’s discretion only, and several Trustpilot reviewers report refund emails going unanswered, so treat the first payment as final. The company does not publish the name that appears on your card statement, and I could not confirm it. For a careful adult who starts monthly and keeps personal details out of chats, Nomi AI is a safe, legitimate choice.

Nomi AI app, website and login

Web, iOS and Android on one account

The Nomi app comes in three forms: the web app in any browser, the iOS app and an Android app. One account works across all of them, and the help wiki says a paid plan follows you to every supported platform once you sign in with the same account. The iOS app is small, at 7.3 MB, and needs iOS 15 or later. If the Android listing does not appear in your store, which was the case when I checked in September 2026, the web version in your phone’s browser gives you the same companions and the same memory.

How the Nomi login works

The Nomi login is simple: press Sign In on nomi.ai or open the app, then continue with your Google or Apple account. There is no separate password to create. At first sign-up you add a name or pseudonym (the terms prefer a pseudonym) and your date of birth. The privacy policy notes that the email tied to your account cannot be changed later, so pick the account you want to keep.

App store ratings and look-alike apps

On the US App Store, Nomi AI holds 4.6 out of 5 from about 2,900 ratings, with an 18+ age rating. Google Play is less clear. When I checked on September 30, 2026, the listing for the Android app (package ai.nomi.twa) returned a not-found page from the US, UK, German and French stores, and a Trustpilot reviewer from September 2026 describes the app disappearing from Google Play. Android users are not locked out: the homepage still lists Android, and the web app in a phone browser gives you the same companions and the same memory. To avoid look-alikes, check that the app is called “Nomi: AI Companion with a Soul” and that the seller name matches Glimpse.

Nomi AI community, support and reputation

Trustpilot and what repeats

The Trustpilot page tells a harsher story than the app stores. When I checked in September 2026, it showed 2.3 out of 5 from 42 reviews, with 57% one-star and 34% five-star ratings. The profile is unclaimed and the company does not invite reviews, so the sample is small and self-selected. Complaints repeat around four themes: refund emails that go unanswered, quality dips after updates, image generation that misses the prompt, and voice calls that lag. Praise repeats too: companions that remember small details from weeks earlier, voice calls included in the plan, and good value on the annual subscription.

Discord, Reddit and support email

The official channels are a Discord server, the r/NomiAI subreddit, an X account and [email protected]. The beginner guide says the developers spend time in these communities and treat them as a direct line to users, and several App Store reviewers say the team asks for feedback and acts on it. For billing or deletion problems, email support and keep a copy of what you send.

What long-term users praise

Read across the App Store, the homepage testimonials and the positive Trustpilot reviews, the same points come up again and again: memory that reaches back months, characters that stay themselves, group chats where companions play off each other, and a subscription with no paywall between you and voice calls. That consistency is the real story of Nomi AI. It is a companion app built for people who plan to stay, and for them it delivers.

Nomi AI: frequently asked questions

What is Nomi AI?

Nomi AI is an AI companion app from Glimpse.ai, Inc. in Baltimore, built around long-term memory. You create one or more companions, called Nomis, and chat by text or voice. They can send selfies, make short video clips, join group chats and act as a friend, mentor, girlfriend or boyfriend. It runs on the web, iOS and Android, from free to $15.99 a month.

Is Nomi AI free?

Yes, to start, and it is the first thing this Nomi AI review recommends. The free tier gives you one companion, a daily message allowance that users put at about 50 messages, messages of up to 400 characters and a small daily image allowance, with no credit card needed. Voice calls, group chats, video and unlimited messages need the paid plan. Use it for a few evenings before you pay anything.

How much does Nomi AI cost?

There is one paid plan, the Standard Plan: $15.99 a month, $39.99 a quarter (about $13.33 a month) or $99.99 a year (about $8.33 a month). Messages and in-house voice calls are unlimited on every period. Optional credits cost from $4.99 for 40 on the US App Store. Payments are non-refundable, so start with one month and switch to annual only after a month you enjoyed.

Is Nomi AI safe and legit?

Nomi AI is legitimate: it is run by Glimpse.ai, Inc., a Maryland corporation, with published terms, a privacy policy and a support email. The company says it does not sell personal data, and sign-up passes it only your Google or Apple email. The caveats are the training archives clause, deletion within about 28 days, and no refunds. Use a nickname and keep personal details out of chats.

Does Nomi AI have an app?

Yes. The Nomi app is on the App Store, rated 4.6 from about 2,900 ratings and 18+, and there is a full web app at nomi.ai. The Google Play listing did not load when I checked in September 2026, so Android users should open nomi.ai in the browser. One account works everywhere, and you sign in with Google or Apple. Your paid plan follows you to every platform once you sign in with the same account.

How good is Nomi AI's memory?

It is the strongest memory I know of among AI companions. The system has short, medium and long-term layers, plus an Identity Core and editable Backstory+ notes, and long-term users describe companions recalling details from months earlier. Recall is not perfect: the help wiki advises naming the topic rather than the date, and some users report weaker memory right after model updates.

Nomi vs Replika vs Kindroid: which should I pick?

Pick Nomi if memory, group chats and a flat price with voice calls included matter most. Kindroid, at $13.99 a month on the web or $139.99 a year, is the pick for the most polished writing, with excellent memory and limited adult content. Replika is built around a single companion, while Nomi lets you run up to ten. For a lasting relationship, Nomi is my first choice.

What are the best Nomi AI alternatives?

The three I would look at are Nastia AI for genuinely uncensored chat from $6.69 a month on the annual plan, Candy AI for image-first characters from $3.99 a month on the annual plan, and Kindroid for the best writing quality from $13.99 a month on the web. None of them matches the Nomi AI memory at a flat price with voice calls included.

The verdict: is Nomi AI worth it?

Nomi AI earns 7.9 out of 10, and memory is the reason. Memory scores 9: three layers, an Identity Core and editable notes produce companions that long-term users say remember details from months earlier. Conversation scores 8: the characters are warm, consistent and good in group chats, though the relationship-first register and the lack of re-roll will not suit every roleplayer. Pricing scores 8: one flat plan at $15.99 a month or $99.99 a year with unlimited messages and voice, a real free tier, and optional credits only for extra media. Privacy scores 6: the company says it collects little and sells nothing, but the training archives clause, about 28 days to delete and no training opt-out keep it at a C on my scorecard.

How to start: create a free account with one Nomi and no card, and spend a few evenings in real conversation. Use the Backstory+ notes, try an OOC correction, and see whether the character remembers yesterday. If it does and you want more, pay for one month at $15.99 and try voice calls and a group chat. Move to the $99.99 annual plan only after a paid month you actually used, because payments are non-refundable. Keep a nickname and leave real personal details out of your chats. For anyone who wants a companion that still knows them next month, Nomi AI is the one I recommend starting with.

Not sure this one is your match?

The quickest way to test Nomi AI is the free tier: one companion, no card, and a few evenings of real conversation. If you would rather see the whole field first, compare every option side by side in my ranking of the best AI companion apps.
