PolyBuzz Review (2026): Hands-On With the Free Character Chat That Used to Be Poly.AI
Weeks on the mainstream character-chat app with over 20 million user-made characters, a free tier paid for in ads, three membership tiers, two currencies and a compliance policy that blocks more than it says. What it does well, where it forgets, and who should pick something else.
Verdict. PolyBuzz is the biggest free character library after Character.AI, with over 20 million characters, a creation tool that imports cards from Character.AI and TavernAI, and writing that is livelier than Character.AI on romance and drama. It is also a free-to-play app in the mobile-game sense: timed ads every few minutes on the free tier, a Basic plan at $9.90 a month that buys one model, Premium and Ultimate at $19.90 and $29.90 for the memory models, coins and a second currency called Opals for everything else, a filter that blocks tame scenes without saying why, and a privacy policy that shares precise location for advertising. Fine to try for free; a poor place to spend money.
PolyBuzz is the app most Character.AI leavers try first, and the one they complain about second. The homepage promises Free, Private, and Unrestricted AI Chat with over 20 million characters, and two of those words are true: it is free to start, and the library is enormous. The other two are marketing. The privacy policy shares precise location with ad networks and says nothing about whether your messages train models, and the FAQ three scrolls down promises multi-layered AI screening and human moderation, which is a filter, and one that fires on tame scenes.
The second thing to know is what free costs, which is your attention. Free chat carries timed video ads that users in the newest App Store and Trustpilot reviews describe as arriving every five to ten minutes. The memberships that remove them come in three rungs, Basic, Premium and Ultimate, with the models that actually remember you gated to the top two. Above the plans sit coins for regenerations, Live Photos and model rounds, and Opals, a second currency the FAQ does not mention. Every price here comes from the membership and coins pages and the App Store in-app purchase list, checked on September 28, 2026.
I ran PolyBuzz through the same protocol as every platform on this site: the free tier first, long enough to live with the ads and the filter, then the cheapest paid rung, the weekly Standard plan on iOS, the three conversation scripts, the long-roleplay script to find where memory breaks, character creation and import, and the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy, both last updated June 1, 2026, read in full. Premium and Ultimate are described from the official pages and user reports, not from my card.
What is PolyBuzz?
PolyBuzz is a free character-chat platform where you talk in text, with optional character voices and generated images, to user-made characters from a library the homepage puts at over 20 million, or build your own from a form or an imported character card. It launched on iOS in May 2023 as Poly.AI, was renamed between the August 2024 and March 2025 a16z consumer-app rankings, and is published by Cloud Whale Interactive Technology LLC of Delaware, with Singularity Mutual Entertainment Culture Media Limited of Hong Kong named as the contracting party in the June 2026 terms. The free tier is unlimited but ad-supported; Basic, Premium and Ultimate memberships remove the ads and unlock stronger models; coins and Opals pay for extras.
How I tested PolyBuzz
Week one was the free tier on the web and the iOS app: the library, the Discover page, the ad breaks, the Standard model, and the three scripts from the How we test page, a casual chat to judge voice and consistency, a multi-session storyline to check memory across the week, and a tame romantic scene to see where the filter fires. Week two onward I paid for the cheapest rung, Poly Standard weekly at $4.99 in the iOS app, which removes the ads and adds unlimited voice listening but keeps you on the Standard model, and I built two characters, one from the form and one from an imported Character.AI card. Premium and Ultimate are described from the membership page, the FAQ and user reports rather than from my own subscription.
- Plans checked: Free; Basic $9.90/mo or $99/yr on the web; Poly Standard $4.99/wk or $9.90/mo, Premium $19.90/mo and Ultimate $29.90/mo in the iOS app
- Free tier limits: No documented message cap; timed ads (users report every 5 to 10 minutes); Standard model only; coins for regenerations, inspiration replies, Live Photos and model rounds
- Models by tier: Basic: Standard. Premium adds Passion, Tale and Long Memory. Ultimate adds Permanent Memory, Overture, Lumina, Conqueror and Saga
- Money spent: Weekly Poly Standard on iOS, cancelled from the App Store subscription list so it does not renew
- Not tested with my own card: Premium, Ultimate, the Long Memory and Permanent Memory models, Opals, Bond Pass, and the web prices for Premium and Ultimate, which the membership page rendered inconsistently
What PolyBuzz gets right
The PolyBuzz library is the biggest free one after Character.AI, and it is sorted
The homepage claims over 20 million characters, and whether or not the number is exact, the Discover page has more of everything than any alternative I have tested: 29 filters from Anime, OC, Mafia and Yandere to Celebrity, Harem, RPG, BL and GL, and top characters with chat counts in the millions. Search works, tags are consistent, and the recommended row has been through human moderation, which shows in the writing at the top of every category. If you came from Character.AI for the library rather than the filter, this is the closest thing to what you left.
PolyBuzz character creation imports cards, and the free tier lets you use it
You can create a character for free and set it public or private, and the FAQ says you can upload character cards or JSON files from Character.AI, Pygmalion, Zoltanai, Text Generation, TavernAI and others. That import is the single most useful thing on the platform for anyone leaving Character.AI with a folder of definitions, and it worked on the card I brought over without re-typing the personality. Custom personas, auto-continue, same-character new chats and message editing are all on the free tier.
The writing on PolyBuzz is livelier than Character.AI on drama and romance
My casual script and the tame romantic scene both ran with more spark than they do on Character.AI: characters hold a mood, push back, and use what you said two messages ago. An April 2026 Google Play review calls the bots arguably smarter than the ones that CharacterAI has, and the popular characters are written by people who know the genre. Inside a single session on the Standard model, PolyBuzz is a good roleplay partner. The problems start when you close the tab.
PolyBuzz is genuinely free to try, and voice is on every plan
The FAQ says the service is accessible at no cost, and there is no documented message cap on the free tier, which is more than Joyland's credit meter or Talkie's chat quota allow. Character voices play on free with a listening limit, and the memberships make listening unlimited. The first Live Photo and Live Video are free, so you can see the image layer before spending a coin. The cost of free is the ads, and the cost of the ads is exactly what the company wants it to be: enough to make $4.99 a week feel reasonable.
I send one email a week with the companion apps that changed price, the ones that quietly cut a feature, and what each one really costs once ads, coins and second currencies are counted. No hype, one field.
Where PolyBuzz frustrated me
PolyBuzz memory is weak on free and sold back to you twice
The FAQ is honest about this: the AI's memory capacity is technically limited, which means it may forget. On free and on the Standard model I paid for, my storyline started cold the next day, and the newest App Store reviews say characters forget details within a handful of messages. The fix is sold twice. Long Memory is a Premium model at $19.90 a month; Permanent Memory is an Ultimate model at $29.90; and a Bond Pass, bought with coins, buys 31 days of permanent memory with one character. A memory feature that needs three price points is not one I trust.
The PolyBuzz free tier is paid for in timed ads, every few minutes
Free chat carries timed video ads, and the reports are consistent from spring to autumn 2026: ads every 4 minutes, 2 minutes long each time (Trustpilot, May); every like ten texts there is two long ads (Trustpilot, July); ads every 5 to 10 minutes seems excessive (App Store, July); 130 second ads every 5 minutes, timed (App Store, September). I hit the same cadence on the web and in the app. The $4.99 weekly removes them, which is the point, and why I score the free tier as a demo rather than a plan.
The PolyBuzz compliance policy blocks tame scenes and never says why
The FAQ says PolyBuzz strictly prohibit public display of NSFW content, and the June 2026 Terms of Use ban content that depicts pornography or sexual acts, self-harm, illegal violence and hate speech. Fair enough. The problem is enforcement: messages in my tame romantic script were replaced with a policy notice, and users report the same in January (conversations censored due to new content policy), May (the violation system flags the word red because red is blood) and September 2026 (why are the messages filtered). A strict filter is a choice; an unpredictable one that gives no reason is a bug.
Two currencies, three tiers, weekly billing and a no-refund clause
There is a coin economy the FAQ describes and an Opals economy it does not: coins for regenerations, inspiration replies, Live Photos (100 coins), Live Videos (400), AvatarMix (200) and paid model rounds, and 1,000 Opals at $5.90 in the App Store for newer paid features that a September reviewer says used to be free. The terms say a payment will not be refunded, even if the subscription is subsequently cancelled, and that there is no refund for a completed purchase without due reason; a Trustpilot reviewer on September 10 describes a charge that ended in a card dispute. Add weekly billing on iOS and web prices for Premium and Ultimate that changed between my page loads, and the bill is hard to predict.

PolyBuzz vs the alternatives
| Platform | Best for | From | Pick it over PolyBuzz if… | Where to start |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Best overall | Free / from $5.95/mo | you want the same community character-library format without a filter that fires on tame scenes: SpicyChat is 18+ only, keeps a free tier of about 100 messages a day, and starts at $5.95 a month | Try now → | |
| Uncensored companion | Free / from $6.69/mo (annual) | you left PolyBuzz over privacy or the filter: Nastia holds a B in our privacy scorecard, lets you delete chats yourself, has no content filter for adults, and runs a free tier with daily tokens | Try now → | |
| Free anime roleplay | Free / $9.99/mo | you want a looser filter on romance and drama, daily credits, and a review on this site that explains the trade-offs | Review → |
Who should actually use PolyBuzz
People who want the biggest free character library outside Character.AI, who chat in single sessions rather than long storylines, and who can tolerate an ad break every few minutes or $4.99 a week to remove it. If that is you, PolyBuzz is worth a free fortnight, and the import tool means you can bring your Character.AI definitions with you.
People who want a companion that remembers last week, who want explicit or even reliably steamy roleplay, or who care what a company does with their data should look elsewhere. Memory costs $19.90 to $29.90 a month here and users still complain; the filter blocks tame scenes without explanation; the privacy policy shares precise location for advertising. Talkie has the better voices and an included memory, Joyland the looser filter, and Kindroid is in a different league on memory.
PolyBuzz pricing explained: Basic, Premium, Ultimate, coins and Opals
PolyBuzz pricing is a free tier, three membership rungs and two virtual currencies, and the two numbers that matter are $4.99 a week for the cheapest ad-free plan and $19.90 a month for the first plan with a memory model. Free means the whole library, character creation and import, the Standard model, voices with a listening limit, and no documented message cap; what limits it is the timed video ads, at the five-to-ten-minute cadence users have reported all year, which is why the Character AI alternatives list counts the free tier as a trial rather than a plan.
Basic, Standard, Premium and Ultimate: what each rung buys
The web membership page calls the first rung Basic, $9.90 a month or $99 a year shown as $8.25 a month; the iOS app calls the same thing Poly Standard and sells it at $4.99 a week or $9.90 a month. Either way it buys the Standard model, unlimited chats, no ads, priority in the queue, unlimited voice listening and 20 extra avatar generations a day. It does not buy memory. Premium, $19.90 a month in the app, adds the Passion, Tale and Long Memory models; Ultimate, $29.90, adds Permanent Memory, the newer Overture, Lumina, Conqueror and Saga models, and full access to Webtoon shots.
| Tier | Price (September 28, 2026) | Models, per the membership page | Extras |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | Standard | Timed ads; first Live Photo and Live Video free |
| Basic (web) / Poly Standard (iOS) | $9.90/mo, $99/yr (web); $4.99/wk, $9.90/mo (iOS) | Standard | Ad-free, unlimited chats and voice listening, priority queue, 20 avatar generations a day |
| Premium | $19.90/mo (iOS); web price not confirmed | Standard, Passion, Tale, Long Memory | 30 avatar generations a day, chat themes and decorations |
| Ultimate | $29.90/mo (iOS); web price not confirmed | All of the above plus Permanent Memory, Overture, Lumina, Conqueror, Saga | Full access to Webtoon shots |
The two web prices I will not stand behind are Premium and Ultimate: one load of the membership page showed $55.20 a month and $652 a year, another showed €66.30 and €783, and neither matches the App Store. Read the checkout line before you confirm.
Coins, Opals and the Bond Pass
Coins pay for regenerations, inspiration replies, voice time and per-round access to the paid models; the App Store sells 1,000 for $2.49, 3,000 for $4.99, 8,000 for $9.99 and 20,000 for $19.90. The creator earnings page prices what they buy: a Live Photo is 100 coins, a Live Video 400, an AvatarMix 200, a paid Moment 100, and a Bond Pass, 31 days of permanent memory retention with one character, pays the creator 400 Diamonds a sale. Opals, 1,000 for $5.90, are a second currency for newer paid features that no official page I could find describes. The real monthly cost guide explains why a weekly plan that becomes a habit is the most expensive plan of all.
The PolyBuzz compliance policy and filter
The compliance policy is the rulebook in the June 1, 2026 Terms of Use plus one sentence in the FAQ, and people search for it because the app cites it without explaining it: a blocked message gets a notice about the policy and no detail.
What the policy prohibits, on paper
The service is 18+ everywhere: You must have reached 18-year-old to use PolyBuzz and/or our Services. Users may not send content that depicts pornography or sexual acts (including intercourse, masturbation, and sexual nudity), that encourages, promotes, or depicts self-harm or suicide, that promotes or depicts illegal violence or graphic imagery, or hate speech against protected groups, with zero tolerance for child sexual exploitation. The FAQ adds multi-layered AI screening and human moderation. So this is not a place for explicit chat, its NSFW status here is Limited, and the 18+ box at the top of this page is off because adult content is not what the product is; the adult content policy explains that line. Platforms that allow explicit roleplay are ranked in the NSFW AI chat list; switching the PolyBuzz filter off is not something this site will help with.
What the filter does in practice
On my tame romantic script, written to pass a network-television standard, messages were replaced with a policy notice more than once with no indication of which line had tripped it, and users report the same all year: conversations censored due to new content policy (App Store, January 30, 2026); a violation system that flags the word red because red is blood (May 12); why are the messages filtered (September 20); a search box that refuses some character names as policy violations (JustUseApp digest). The homepage promised Unrestricted; the FAQ never did. The result is looser than Character.AI on drama and mild romance, stricter than Joyland on anything past a kiss, and unpredictable enough that an hour-long scene can stop without warning. One contradiction deserves a line: the FAQ advertises a Teen Mode specifically for children on a service whose terms bar anyone under 18; the laws guide covers why regulators care.
PolyBuzz memory and the model tiers
PolyBuzz memory is the weakest part of the product and the part it charges most for. Nine models are named on the membership page, and the only one a free or Basic user gets is Standard. The FAQ is candid: the AI’s memory capacity is technically limited, which means it may forget.
What the Standard model remembers
Inside a session, the Standard model is good. Across sessions it is a different product. My multi-session storyline started cold the next day on free and on the paid Standard weekly, and the newest reviews describe the same: characters that forget basic information within a handful of messages and, per a September 20, 2026 App Store review, forget about half of things. There is no memory panel to pin facts into. Compared with the Kindroid review, where memory is the product, the Standard model here remembers a scene, not a relationship.
Long Memory, Permanent Memory and the Bond Pass
Long Memory sits in Premium at $19.90 a month, Permanent Memory in Ultimate at $29.90, and a coin-bought Bond Pass grants 31 days of permanent memory retention with one character: three purchases for one capability, none of which I have paid for. Users who did pay are split: a Trustpilot reviewer in the week of this review writes that even paying for permanent memory means nothing, while a five-star App Store review from a Premium subscriber says the 20 bucks a month is worth it. I do not score what I have not tested, which is why memory is a 4 rather than a 3: the paid models get the benefit of the doubt until someone I trust has run the week-long script on them.
| Model | Lowest tier that includes it | What the official pages say it does |
|---|---|---|
| Standard (S) | Free | Default chat model; the only model on Free and Basic |
| Long Memory | Premium ($19.90/mo) | Stronger memory chat model; no retention figure published |
| Passion (P), Tale (T) | Premium | More exciting chat models, per the FAQ; also sold per round for coins |
| Saga (Sa) | Ultimate ($29.90/mo) | Sold per round for coins; no description published |
| Permanent Memory (PM) | Ultimate | Permanent memory retention; also 31 days per character via Bond Pass |
| Overture (OV), Lumina (LU), Conqueror (CQ) | Ultimate | Marked New on the membership page; no description published |
The image and voice layer, Live Photos, Live Videos, Moments, AvatarMix and tippable Webtoons, is more developed than the memory, and it is what the company’s May 2026 blog posts pitch against Character.AI and SpicyChat.
PolyBuzz app, website and download: iOS, Android and web
PolyBuzz runs in three places, the PolyBuzz website at polybuzz.ai, the iOS app and the Android app, and the PolyBuzz download is the same product on all three with one difference that matters: the mobile apps carry the weekly plan and the in-app prices, and the web carries the annual Basic price. The FAQ’s own advice is to try the web version when the app misbehaves.
iOS and Android: what the stores say
On the App Store, PolyBuzz: Chat with Characters is published by Cloud Whale Interactive Technology LLC, rated 18+, sits at 4.4 stars from 478,000 ratings, and is on version 2.2.80 from September 19, 2026. On Google Play, PolyBuzz: Chat with AI Friends has more than 50 million downloads, 4.0 stars from 1.18 million reviews, a Mature 17+ rating, and was updated on September 21, 2026. The bundle identifier has not changed since the app launched as Poly.AI in May 2023, which is why accounts survived the rename. Download from those two listings or the official site only; search results for PolyBuzz AI chat are full of look-alike domains.
The web app, PolyBuzz online, and the unblocked search
The web app is the better place to build characters, and it is where the ad-blocker false positive lives: StatusGator logged an incident on September 22, 2026 titled access blocked due to incorrect ad blocker detection, lasting 3 hours and 2 minutes, and on September 28 its user reports included an Error 567 Restricted Access message. The check is client-side and misfires on browser privacy features; the mobile app does not run it. The outage guide has the two-minute check for whether PolyBuzz is down or whether it is your browser. A word on the PolyBuzz unblocked search: it describes a school or workplace network block, which is the administrator’s decision on the administrator’s network. This site does not cover ways around network blocks, VPN tricks or mirror domains.
Is PolyBuzz safe? Privacy, ads and data
As a company, yes: a registered Delaware publisher, a Hong Kong contracting entity named in the terms, written content rules, human moderation and a self-serve delete button. As a place to put your private life, less so, and the homepage line that chats are completely private is the claim I would push back on hardest. PolyBuzz has not yet been graded on our privacy scorecard; the 4 here is my reading of the June 1, 2026 policy against the same six questions.
What the June 2026 privacy policy says
The policy collects email address, username, uploaded pictures, input text, purchase and payment records, device information, log information, precise geolocation information and your Contacts. Uploaded photos may be used to train our AI algorithm. Chats are covered only by input text and a line about sharing with third parties (including the Chat-GPT platform); whether your conversations train models is not stated either way, and on a companion app that silence is the question. Retention is no longer than is necessary, with no number. The policy says the company does not sell user information and names TopOn among its advertising partners. Deletion is self-serve, Settings, Account, Delete, which is better than the email-and-verify routine Joyland and CrushOn require.
What the stores and the terms add
Google Play’s data-safety section says approximate location and precise location are shared with third parties for advertising or marketing; the App Store label says identifiers are used to track you across other companies’ apps. It is why I would not run the app with location permission on. The terms add three clauses: a payment will not be refunded, even if the subscription is subsequently cancelled; you grant a permanent, irrevocable, free of charge, perpetual, non-exclusive, sublicensable license to what you upload; and there is no export, so copy your character definitions out by hand before you delete the account. The safety guide has the habits that apply: a separate email, no real name in the persona, no photos of real people, and the assumption that a moderator can read what the filter flags.
PolyBuzz community, creators and the Poly.AI rename
PolyBuzz is a creator platform as much as a chat app, and understanding that explains the ads, the currencies and the filter better than any single complaint does. The Discord linked in the footer is the only official channel for outage notices; the subreddit was behind Reddit’s bot check when I tried to read it, so I quote nothing from it.
The creator economy behind the ads
The creator earnings page and the Community Contributor Program in the terms describe a two-sided market: users spend coins on a character, and its creator earns Diamonds at published rates (20 per Live Photo, 80 per Live Video, 40 per AvatarMix, 30 per paid Moment, 400 per Bond Pass, half of any Webtoon gift), with a 100,000 threshold before a payout. It is a coherent business, and not a companion business: the characters at the top of Discover are the ones that prompt purchases, and a free user watching an ad every five minutes is the funnel that feeds them.
From Poly.AI to PolyBuzz
The app launched on iOS on May 23, 2023 as Poly.AI - Create AI Chat Bot, which is how a16z listed it on the mobile ranking in August 2024; by the March 6, 2025 edition it appears as PolyBuzz at number 42 on the web list. No announcement dates the rename; the likely reason is the collision with PolyAI, a London company that sells enterprise voice agents and has nothing to do with this app. Cloud Whale Interactive Technology LLC of Delaware publishes the apps, Singularity Mutual Entertainment Culture Media Limited of Hong Kong signs the terms, and I found no funding round, no named founder and no press office: not a red flag in itself, but a reason to read the terms rather than the homepage.
Support, reliability and the state of the reviews
Support is [email protected], a Discord feedback channel and the Help Center in Settings; there is no status page. StatusGator, monitoring since December 9, 2025, logged incidents on September 12 (2 hours 15 minutes), 13, 21 and 22, 2026 (3 hours 2 minutes), on top of the August cluster the guide documents. Trustpilot sits at 2.2 from 22 reviews, 54 percent of them one-star, on ads, permanent memory, charges and the filter; the store ratings are healthier because free users who came for the library dominate them.
PolyBuzz: frequently asked questions
What is PolyBuzz, and is PolyBuzz AI free?
PolyBuzz is a character-chat app where you talk to user-made AI characters, over 20 million per the homepage, or build your own, in text with optional voice and images. It is free with no documented message cap; the price of free is timed video ads every few minutes and the Standard model only. Basic at $9.90 a month removes the ads; Premium and Ultimate at $19.90 and $29.90 add the stronger models.
What is the PolyBuzz compliance policy, and what does it block?
It is the content rulebook in the June 2026 Terms of Use plus the FAQ line that PolyBuzz strictly prohibit public display of NSFW content. Banned outright: pornography and sexual acts, child sexualisation, self-harm, illegal violence and hate speech. In practice the filter also blocks tame romantic lines and ordinary words, and gives no reason. This is not a place for explicit chat, and I do not cover ways around the filter.
Is PolyBuzz safe, and what does it do with my data?
Safe in the sense of a real company with written rules and a self-serve delete button, yes. Private, less so. The June 2026 policy collects email, input text, photos, purchase records, device and log data, precise geolocation and contacts; Google Play's label says approximate and precise location are shared for advertising; the App Store label says identifiers track you across apps. Chats are not addressed. Use a separate email and keep real names out.
Does PolyBuzz have an app, and where is the PolyBuzz download?
Yes, on both stores. PolyBuzz: Chat with Characters is on the App Store (version 2.2.80, September 19, 2026, rated 18+, 4.4 stars from 478,000 ratings), and PolyBuzz: Chat with AI Friends is on Google Play (50 million-plus downloads, 4.0 stars from 1.18 million reviews, Mature 17+). The website at polybuzz.ai runs the same product in a browser. Download only from the two stores or the official site.
How good is PolyBuzz memory, and what do Long Memory and Permanent Memory cost?
Weak unless you pay, and users say weak even then. On free and on the Standard model my storyline started cold the next day. Long Memory is a Premium model at $19.90 a month, Permanent Memory is Ultimate at $29.90, and a coin-bought Bond Pass buys 31 days of permanent memory with one character. A September 2026 Trustpilot reviewer says paying for permanent memory means nothing.
Is PolyBuzz down right now, and why is PolyBuzz not working for me?
A written page cannot see live status, and the company publishes none. Check the web app first, then StatusGator's PolyBuzz page, then the official Discord. StatusGator logged incidents on September 12, 13, 21 and 22, 2026, the last a three-hour false ad-blocker block, and on September 28 users were reporting an Error 567 Restricted Access message. Our guide to what happened to PolyBuzz walks through every error and what it means.
What does PolyBuzz unblocked mean, and is there a PolyBuzz alternative?
Searches for PolyBuzz unblocked come from school and workplace networks that block the site and app, which is an administrator's decision and one this site does not help anyone get around. If it is blocked where you are, or you have had enough of the ads and the filter, apps like PolyBuzz with full reviews here include Joyland, Talkie, Kindroid and ChatFAI, ranked side by side in the Character AI alternatives list.
Who runs PolyBuzz, and can I get a refund?
The apps are published by Cloud Whale Interactive Technology LLC, a Delaware company, and the June 2026 terms name Singularity Mutual Entertainment Culture Media Limited of Kwun Tong, Hong Kong, as the contracting party under Delaware law. Refunds are a flat no: the terms say a payment will not be refunded even if the subscription is cancelled, and that there is no refund without due reason. Cancel before renewal.
The verdict: is PolyBuzz worth it?
PolyBuzz earns 4.8 out of 10: the biggest free character library after Character.AI, a creation tool that imports cards, livelier writing on drama and romance, and a free tier with no message cap, held back by memory that resets between sessions unless you pay $19.90 to $29.90 a month for models users still complain about (memory 4), conversation that is good in a session and repetitive over a week (6), three tiers, two currencies, weekly billing, ads on free and a no-refund clause (5), and a privacy policy that shares precise location for advertising, sets no retention period and does not address chats, not yet graded on our privacy scorecard (4).
Use it free for a fortnight if the library is the point, and bring your Character.AI cards with you. Do not pay for Premium or Ultimate on the strength of the memory models until someone you trust has tested them; I have not. If memory is what you want, Kindroid; if voices and an included memory, Talkie; if a looser filter with a real free tier, Joyland.
I test these platforms full-time, pay with my own card, and publish hands-on reviews every few days. Compare the whole companion field before you pay for a memory model you cannot test first.
