CrushChat Review (2026): Hands-On With the Flat-Rate Uncensored Character Chat

Privacy: what CrushChat stores

CrushChat’s privacy policy is dated April 24, 2023, names its operator as “My Company”, and does not say how long your chats are kept, whether they train anything, or how to get them deleted. That is the short version, and it is also most of the long version, because the document is a few hundred words of boilerplate about log data, cookies and Google Analytics. I read it twice to make sure I had not missed a section. I had not. Everything else you can learn about where your data goes on CrushChat comes from the terms, the store listings and the app itself, which is a strange way to have to assemble a privacy picture for an adult service.

Who runs CrushChat and where your data goes

The controller is one person. Google Play lists the developer as Vikram Anand Cothur at an address in Ambernath, Maharashtra, India; the App Store seller is Vikram Cothur; the terms of use give the same Ambarnath address as the place to send a Notice of Dispute; and the FAQ links his personal Twitter account as a support channel. There is no company name on any page beyond the placeholder, no registration number, and the WHOIS record for crushchat.app is hidden. Scamadviser puts the hosting on Linode in the United States, so an Indian sole trader is holding adult chat logs on US servers under a policy that does not mention international transfer at all. The terms add two more data points: the site uses Google’s DoubleClick DART cookie for advertising, and account termination “may involve deletion of your User Content”, which is the only line about deletion in either document. The Google Play data-safety card, which the developer fills in himself, says the app may share personal info with third parties, collects personal info, encrypts data in transit and lets you request deletion. Those five phrases are more specific than the privacy policy they link to.

What the CrushChat policy says, and what it leaves out

What it says: CrushChat collects your name and whatever else identifies you, log data such as IP address and pages visited, and cookie data; it may use Google Analytics; it may email you newsletters and promotions; it uses “commercially acceptable means” to protect data and guarantees nothing. What it leaves out is everything a 2026 reader looks for. There is no retention period. There is no statement on whether conversations are used to train or tune the models, and no opt-out. There is no mention of GDPR, the UK, California or any other regime, no data-protection contact, and no age statement, although the terms and the sign-in screen both require you to be 18. There is no list of processors, so you cannot tell which AI provider actually reads the messages. Compare this with Nastia AI, whose short policy at least names the categories of providers and the retention rule, or with the pages I grade in the privacy scorecard, and CrushChat lands at the bottom of the adult field on paper. One honest caveat: a tiny operation with a thin policy may hold less data than a venture-funded one with a thorough policy, but you cannot know that, and that is the point of a policy.

Deleting your CrushChat account

Deletion works, and it is the one privacy feature I can vouch for. The account screen has a Delete Account button, and the confirmation is blunt: all your chats will be deleted, and any public characters you made will be delisted. Individual chats can be cleared from a dropdown next to the send button, which the FAQ explains, and the chat clears immediately. Whether anything survives in backups is unstated, because nothing about backups is stated. If the delete fails, the app tells you to email [email protected], which brings you back to the single person at the end of every support path. Cancel any store subscription in your Apple or Google settings before deleting, because the subscription lives in the store, not in the account. CrushChat images, audio and avatars

CrushChat bundles images and audio into the subscription instead of metering them, and that decision shapes the whole product. On Silver and Gold there is no per-picture cost, no balance to watch and no moment where a scene stalls because you ran out of something. The trade-off is that the pipeline is simpler than the metered platforms: fewer style controls, no upscaling options, and an anime bias that the site’s own rules reinforce. The Free plan sees the character portraits that creators generated and nothing more; requesting a new image on a message is a Silver feature, and the manual request button is greyed out until you subscribe.

Image requests on CrushChat

Once subscribed, an image request is a tap on any message from any character, and the picture is drawn to match the character’s stored description and the moment in the chat. The settings expose three switches that matter: show images at all, a realistic-versus-anime style toggle, and automatic image generation, which lets characters send pictures on their own as the scene develops. Automatic mode is fun for a night and then noisy, because the model fires on lines that do not need illustrating. Quality is the familiar anime-adjacent style that most of the character library was drawn in, consistent with each character’s portrait, and it is genuinely uncensored within the rules. Realistic mode produces usable renders that lose the character’s face more often than the anime mode does, and they do not reach the polish of Candy AI or Secrets AI, both of which charge per image for that polish. The rules add a constraint worth knowing: bots based on real people may only use the anime-style model or another clearly stylised look, and image prompts with any coded language around age are treated as intentional violations. Silver also unlocks the Sparkle image-generation bot on the official Discord, which is a separate way to make pictures outside a chat and is the closest thing CrushChat has to a standalone generator.

Audio, voice calls and talking avatars

Audio arrived on CrushChat in early 2024, announced on the subreddit, and it means text-to-speech on messages in a voice attached to the character. It is unlimited on Silver, decent for short lines and flat on long ones, and the September 2026 app update notes mention voice-cloning improvements, so custom voices are being worked on. Voice calls are Gold only: you talk out loud, the character answers in its voice, and the exchange is a turn-based call rather than the real-time conversation Kalon AI or Kindroid manage. Talking Avatars are labelled alpha on the pricing page and behave like it: an animated portrait that blinks, breathes and lip-syncs to the audio, impressive for a one-person shop and rough enough that I turned it off after two sessions. If voice or avatars are the reason you are here, the $20 tier is the only way to get them; if they are a curiosity, Silver is the right stop.

CrushChat memory, models and characters

CrushChat’s memory is a session window plus your persona, and the Gold plan sells a bigger window without ever saying how big the small one is. Inside a conversation the character tracks what has been said, refers back to earlier lines, and keeps its voice. Across conversations, and across a long enough single conversation, older details fall out of view silently. Independent reviewers describe it as memory within a session, the Google Play listing promises characters that “remember your conversations and build on them over time”, and the pricing page offers Gold subscribers “twice the memory capacity” plus an AI that “remembers personal details about you across conversations”. None of those pages states a number, and I could not find one in the app either.

How far back CrushChat remembers

In practice the window is short enough that details I gave a character early did not survive a week of chatting with it unless they lived in my persona, which matches what independent testers and subreddit users report. The persona is the fix: it is a block of text about you that the character reads on every turn, so anything that must persist, your name, your dog, the running joke, goes there. Silver gives you eight persona slots and Gold sixteen, and since the 1.1.9 app update you can pin a different persona to each chat, which is how you keep a mystery-novel character from knowing what your slice-of-life character knows. Gold also adds saved chats, meaning several separate conversations with the same character, which the app describes as a Gold feature when you try it on Silver. What Gold does not add is anything like Kindroid’s long-term memory or Nomi’s, where the system extracts facts and carries them forward without you curating them. On CrushChat you are the archivist, and that is the gap between a 5 and an 8 on memory.

Models, presets and reply length

The store listings say “multiple AI models” and let you switch between them per chat, but CrushChat does not name its models anywhere public, so I cannot tell you which open-weight family you are talking to or how large it is. What I can describe is the behaviour. The default reply is short, a paragraph or two, and the app runs a storytelling mode that keeps characters narrating in the third person with dialogue rather than answering like an assistant. The writing is competent and stays in character; the argument script, where the character has to hold a position I keep attacking, held up better than on Nastia AI and worse than on SpicyChat’s top tier. Gold subscribers get generation presets, named things like Evening Truth and Freaky Frankenstein in the September 2026 release notes, which change the style of reply and come with a daily count of preset replies that the app shows you. The notes describe Freaky Frankenstein as having coloured dialogue and tap-to-expand game menus, so at least one preset is closer to an interactive fiction mode than a tone switch. The daily preset cap is not published on the pricing page, which is the second unstated number on the Gold card.

Characters, personas and Story Mode

The character library is small compared with SpicyChat or Joyland, hundreds of active public bots rather than tens of thousands, sorted by Hot, New, Top and Updated with category filters. Quality varies the way it does on every community platform, and CrushChat’s answer is a low-effort rule: characters with a one-line persona and no narrative can be flagged and removed unless they have six or more points from users or a strong opening message. The creator tools are straightforward, with a persona field, a description, opening messages, tags, and a generated portrait; the Free plan lets you build two private characters, and public sharing needs a paid plan. The best tool is the one I keep coming back to: on Silver you can edit any public character’s persona and opening messages for your own chat, which turns the whole library into a starting point rather than a finished product. Story Mode, Gold only, is branching interactive fiction with several characters in one scene; it is the closest CrushChat comes to Nastia’s group chat and it is less free-form, because the story structure leads and you follow.

CrushChat community, support and the one-person company

CrushChat is one developer, a Discord of about 2,200 members, a subreddit, and a FAQ written in the first person, and every strength and weakness of the product flows from that size. The developer announced the site on Reddit in April 2023 as a chatbot you could have uncensored conversations with, answered questions in the threads himself, and still replies to reviews on the subreddit inviting people to the Discord. The Discord is where the image bot lives, where outages get explained and where the volunteer moderators work. Similarweb estimated 64,000 visits over the three months to August 2026, with half of them from Thailand and a fifth from Mexico, which tells you this is a small, international, word-of-mouth service rather than a marketed one.

Support speed and the refund question

Support is an email address, a Twitter account and the Discord, and all three end at the same person. The FAQ, last updated December 29, 2024, says refunds are handled manually by the developer and asks you to reach out if you are not satisfied; the terms of use say the company has no obligation to provide support or maintenance, limit its total liability to fifty US dollars, and send any dispute to binding arbitration through the American Arbitration Association with a class-action waiver. Read together, that is a promise to be reasonable backed by a contract that promises nothing. In fairness, the Reddit record is mostly positive: paying users in the subreddit describe the paid tier as legitimate, unlimited as advertised and without further paywalls, and the loudest complaints are about the subscribe prompt interrupting free chats and about privacy, not about being cheated. My rule for a shop this size is to pay through the App Store or Google Play, because that adds Apple’s or Google’s refund process to the developer’s goodwill, and to avoid the crypto option unless you have a reason to need it.

Outages, Boosty and the app-store pivot

Two things happened to CrushChat’s plumbing that a reader should know about. First, payments. Membership used to run through Patreon and then through Boosty, a creator-subscription platform; the pricing page now states that Boosty has blocked CrushChat, that no new or renewing subscriptions can be taken there, and that Boosty subscribers keep access only until the end of their current period. The replacement is the pair of store apps released in April 2026, which are SFW builds that exist mainly so you can subscribe through Apple or Google and then use the website; the page even tells you that you can delete the app after purchasing. That is a clever workaround, and it means the adult product now depends on two app stores tolerating an app that does not itself contain adult content. Second, uptime. The subreddit has the “is CrushChat down” threads you would expect from a single-server operation, with users noting that the status page said operational while the site did not load. Neither issue is a scandal; both are the cost of a $10 service with one person behind it, and the real monthly cost guide is where I weigh that cost against the metered platforms that have staff.
